I have a sweet share today and a new fold I stumbled upon! Yes, there are sooo many out there!
I’m sure you’ve heard of a ‘gate fold’ card? Well, this is a take on a gate fold. Usually, we use a belly band or wrap to keep these type cards closed.
A slide and lock is just another way to keep your card held closed!
I created a couple of cute spring versions today –
So cute with this Springtime Joy lamb! I colored the cutie with Stampin’ Blends to match the Flowers for Every Season Designer Series Paper.

The slide and lock in action –
To create the mechanism for this card –
- cut 4 pieces 2″ x 2″
- two of them, score at 1″
- fold the 2 scored in half
- apply strong adhesive, like Tear & Tape, to both halves of each scored piece, don’t remove liner tape yet
- adhere 1 folded over piece, scoreline towards center, on one of the 2″ x 2″ squares
- next, adhere the other scored piece right up against the first one, scoreline right up against the other scoreline
- take the other 2″ x 2″ piece and adhere to top
- your mechanism will look like an ‘X’ sort of
- for my cards, I added a decorated Stitched So Sweetly rectangle on my slider mechanism
- I used the same size slider mechanism for both cards
NOTE – where the two flaps of the card meets in the middle, I trimmed a sliver off each side leaving a small gap. This will allow the slider to slide on and off and for the card to fold flat for mailing

This was the first one I made –
The card base is 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored 2 3/4″ from each end.
This card base is 4 1/4″ x 11, scored at 2 1/8″ from each end. I used the Double Oval Punch for the sentiment.
